Kolam Journey

Kolam is a form of traditional decorative art that is drawn by using rice flour as per age-old conventions. It is also drawn using white stone powder, chalk or chalk powder, often along with natural or synthetic color powders.

Traditionally, kolam is drawn to welcome Goddess Lakshmi, who is the bestower of prosperity. It also drives away evil spirits. Kolam is usually symmetrical which is also an indication of balance in the Universe.

I started learning this Art form from a well known artist Ms. Hema Kannan from India who is been practicing this art from childhood.
